There's Only One Ocean
Every morning, as I paddle out into the Bay, I ask myself "What would you be feeling right now if there was a huge oil well blowout 40 miles out from Hanalei, and you were just waiting for the oil to come ashore?"
The turtles, dolphins, seals and fish I've come to know would all be gone. It would be the end of everything we love, probably for the rest of our lifetimes. You wouldn't even want to walk on the beach - it would just be too painful.
The BP Gulf Oil Disaster (it's not a mere "spill") needs to act as a wakeup call for the human race. The Niger Delta in Africa has been hit worse environmentally than the Gulf of Mexico, for decades - and no-one paid attention.
We call oceans "Pacific" or "Atlantic". But the dolphins know; there's really only one ocean. They're all joined, and what we do to one part of the ocean affects the whole ocean.
It's time to end our dependence on oil. Not just "foreign oil" - all oil.
